Highlights of Sydney’s Bondi Beach

Sydney’s Bondi Beach is located on Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and it’s the most famous beach in Australia.  It attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists and Sydney siders alike to its shores as it boasts not only a beautiful and picturesque beach, but a thriving culture and nightlife.  It is approximately 7km away from Sydney’s central business district and is easily accessible via public transport or car.

Sea and Surf

The beach is a lengthy 1km of white sand and surf with an ocean temperature that is temperate to cool. Surfers love this beach due to its well-formed rolling waves.  Strewn with cafés and shops, it is not only a great place to have a swim, surf or sunbake, but to shop and dine too.

Shopping

Take a stroll down the bustling commercial area along Campbell Parade and get lost in the adjacent side streets that feature fashionable cafes and restaurants with views of the beach and chic pedestrians.

Walking

Do you like walking? Take the undulating cliff walk south between Bondi beach and Bronte beach and beyond for striking views of the ocean and surfers that dare to catch a wave.

A few great annual attractions of Bondi

  • Sydney’s famous marathon starts in downtown Sydney and ends at the beach.  Thousands of people that run the 14km hilly distance dive into the sea after they have completed their run to cool off and enjoy their achievement on the beach.
  • Sculpture by the Sea is a yearly event in which the cliffs by the sea become an outdoor gallery.  Many celebrated artists erect their art on the crags and precipices.  This creates the most incredible vista with the ocean as its backdrop.
  • If you love shopping, don’t miss out on Bondi Markets which happen every Sunday.  Also check out Bondi Icebergs, which is a sea water pool on the South side of the beach.  It features a cafe and restaurant bar too, so you can enjoy a wine and a hors d’oeuvre with panoramic views.

Proximity to transport and infrastructure

Close the city!  Considered one of Sydney’s most densely populated suburbs, this legendary beach town can be accessed easily via train and bus.  It is a 40 minute bus ride from the city.  In fact you can catch a bus directly down to the beach that will take you as close as 100 meters away from the sand!  Due to this destinations popularity and vibrant nightlife, the bus route that runs from the city to Bondi Beach is the only bus in Australia that runs 24 hours a day.

Close to the Shopping Mall!  One of the largest shopping malls in Sydney is located a short 3km from the beach, the renowned Westfield Bondi Junction.  This boasts hundreds of shops under one roof, from designer clothing to top restaurants and cinemas.
